Five years of service

Special Education Advocacy is the act of supporting and defending the rights of students with disabilities to receive appropriate educational services and accommodations. This includes ensuring they have access to:

  •  Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE): Meaningful educational opportunities tailored to their individual needs.
  •  Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Comprehensive plans outlining goals, services, and supports.
  •  Least Restrictive Environment (LRE): Placement in the most inclusive setting possible.
  •  Qualified Personnel: Teachers and therapists trained to meet their specific needs.

How it Differs from General Education Advocacy

While general education advocacy focuses on the rights of all students, special education advocacy specifically addresses the unique challenges and needs of students with disabilities. It involves navigating complex legal frameworks (like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, IDEA) and advocating for specialized services that general education students may not require.
